Powered is cool but for my use case it would likely be overkill. My immediate concerns:
- accessing the slide tray in parking lots or congested areas and relying on the motor to extend the tray with precision (not full extension) so as not to hit cars or objects next to the truck - one more moving part to fail and potentially replace - battery drain
I trust the build quality and part choice but still trust manual over power. Can't imagine the battery drain would be that great but considering how frequently I access the gear tunnel and plan to utilize the slide often for camping, biking, construction work, etc. it would be something. I can imagine getting frustrated having just pushed to close and immediately needing to reopen because I forgot a small tool or other. Again, I suppose all this would be moot if it had manual override. Cool idea and I'll vote with the masses but at this point prefer manual. Thanks for soliciting input!

I love the idea of it being powered and would not mind the extra cost. Ditto for me. Thanks.

I think motorized might actually turn out to be safer than manual in parking lot situations as it is much more predictable and consistent. It would depend on how it is set up of course. Durability and longevity would also be high on my personal priority list--anyone who has ever had a power window conk out in South Texas understands =)

I just wanted to reiterate that having a powered / motorized option is not my primary focus right now--figuring out an economical and reliable 2-way slide is my top priority. So no need to worry that I am not on task =)

If at all possible and not overly complicated I'd love if power models could use either power or manual functionality.

Powered would definitely add to the "glamping" part of things, and it will have a wow factor as well. I am all for it, provided, like you said, it is not failure prone. Last thing you'd want is to get to your destination for the night and the camp kitchen not sliding out.
Or would it be designed in such a way that power system failure has a manual override?
Either way, I really like you taking us all along on you journey of designing these parts, and all the things you take into account - very informative!

I always try to consider failure modes so it would have to be able to open/close manually in the event of a failure =)

I am not in line for the SK[=O====O=]TR, but am for the k[=o===o=]k, so I'd like to chime in, too. I like this idea of a power slide mechanism. Two caveats: 1) must have manual control in case of powered control failure, and 2) be able to push-button stop at partial slide out.
Thanks for keeping this interesting!

It sounds really neat, though I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost for me. I don't want to rain on anyone else's parade who might want it, so I would love to see it as an add on option...

Powered sounds absolutely amazing!! It would definitely create a safer deployment on any ground that is not reasonably level and it would add to it functionally in that it could be stopped and held at any point in its travel. I am all fort it!! MAKE IT POWERED!!! MIC DROP!!!

I like powered and would pay extra for it but am also completely happy without it. I'm impressed with the overall design here and just would take non-powered if it makes a difference in multiple months to delivery.

I'm on the list and absolutely +1 for powered.

I like the motorized design so the slide will stay where stopped, rather than gravity causing it to roll in or out. But if motorizing causes significant delay, I prefer earlier delivery.

I’m definitely interested in the powered slide.
