Hi all!
I'm Kirk. I'm a mechanical engineer by education, currently manage product development engineering groups at three sites. I love to see creative people solving interesting design challenges, which is why I'm here on this forum!
I live in San Diego and enjoy all the various outdoor activities available here. Took delivery of my R1T in September and really loving this truck. Looking to get back into off-roading and camping, it's been a while since I had a vehicle to do that. Also enjoying helping my son fix up his '94 Jeep XJ.

Welcome Kirk,
San Diego. I'm jealous. Pretty much the best weather on the planet and close to just about everything.

Thanks for the welcome. San Diego is a great place to be, I was born here and can't imagine leaving.
Some great off-roading and camping opportunities. My favorite is the Anza Borrego Desert State Park. Huge area and you can dry camp just about anywhere in the park. Lots of spots to get away from people and have the desert to yourself. But at the moment, there are no DC fast chargers anywhere near this area, not even on the route to and from. And only a couple level 2 options. It's now the start of the camping season out there, so I will be making a dry run out there soon, just to try out the drive in the R1T and understand the range issues I will encounter on a camping trip.

You are close to mountains, coast, the Redwoods, wine country, one of the finest zoo's on the planet. I have read that there are regions of Italy that are very similar to San Diego weather wise and I'm sure the cultural differences would make it a fascinating place to visit, but if I could live anywhere San Diego would be on the top of my short list for sure.

Just thought I would share some pics from a quick trip to the local desert a couple weeks ago. Area is Ocotillo Wells, a popular OHV area. My son and friends had gone out for the weekend, so decided to join them for one night. First chance to try out the R1T in the sand. Played with different off-road modes. The soft sand mode makes a huge improvement with the traction control essentially off. And yes, it was very comfortable sleeping in the back of the truck in February! But it was an usually warm (low 50's) and wind-free night, so maybe not the norm for this area. (Edit: Not sure how to get linked pics to show on this board??) www.dropbox.com/s/gum5nkg9m76ajqk/IMG_3995.jpg?dl=0

I have a forest green Tacoma so I am ready for a new color on my next truck--probably silver--but yours sure looks great in that setting.
