I like the last revision...looking forward to final designs. I'm working on the 12 gallon Frunk water tank test articles right now so we can get started on the mod tooling, but once that is done the slide rail testing is next on my to do list =)

It looks like this one has enough interest to go all the way? 58 of 50 when I looked today... Loving the updates and totally understand needing to do the water tank while you're already working on it, but do you have a ETA for when you think the SK [=0===0=] TR will start getting manufactured?

Loving the updates and totally understand needing to do the water tank while you're already working on it, but do you have a ETA for when you think the SK [=0===0=] TR will start getting manufactured? I wasn't entirely clear there, sorry. They will actually have "overlapping" manufacturing. By that I mean the water tank will start first and once my portion of that process is done--right now I am making the water tank fitment test part--and it is handed off to the tool maker for the roto-molding mold, I will then start making test parts for the slide tray. If the slide tray tests are what I am hoping for performance wise, the two projects should finish production at roughly the same time--we are still early in the process for both parts and there are several milestones that add some unpredictability so to be extra clear that is not 100% certain--more like the plan at this point. I am hoping for and working towards March or April for shipping. I will be updating progress as we move along.

So as I mentioned above--I am not crazy about all the space you lose with the plastic totes or the fruit stand aesthetic. I very much want to keep the modular plank part of that design though so I merged the original design with the plank and it actually works pretty well.
Still fiddling with colors so don't read too much into those for now. Most likely will end up all black anyway. View Attachment View Attachment View Attachment View Attachment View AttachmentThe plank is largely unchanged. The top portion or the "bins" are a second extrusion bolted to the plank with eight M5 T nuts. So still very easily removed for those that want to tinker. Dividers are basic sheet metal, and the end plates are machined 18 mm thick aluminum--basically billet. I think the aesthetic fits the R1S a lot better and there is no wasted space. Your thoughts? I love this! The move to a modular plank with T slots is fantastic. And the ability to customize compartment sizes is great.

The plank design is awesome. I really wanted the gear tunnel shuttle but thought is was a bit steep on price and wasn't sure I'd be able to replicate the quick clip-in system they were using. Your use of the T slots is perfect and provides the modularity that I'm craving for DIY. What's your opinion on a split plank for pulling a half out of each side? There could be an option to link them together for either single or 2-halves configurations depending on the needs of the attached modules. Probably more than doubles the number of parts though. It's so fun to think about potential modules for this. Awesome stuff.

As the design is now, you can slide it out of either/both sides already and the half / third that stays inside the gear tunnel provides cantilever support. In a very general sense, simplicity and fewer parts is usually the best way to go. That said, I have already drawn up a split/single side design with 30" long drawers/slides and we can look at that as an option.

Is there any update to the status of this project or the kitchen project? I know you're busy and this isn't your full time gig, just trying to get a feel for the timeline.

Is there any update to the status of this project or the kitchen project? I know you're busy and this isn't your full time gig, just trying to get a feel for the timeline. The 12 gallon water tank design is now "pencils down" and the tank files are with the roto-molding tool shop. We should have the aluminum molds in 4 to 6 weeks. We will be sending out an email in a few days to update everyone who has signed up for W[=0===0=]TR on progress and the timeline. With the water tank starting production I'm now working on the Slide Out Utility Tray test samples to verify the slide rails work as expected. Basically we will CNC machine all the aluminum and UHMW parts, bolt the steel rails to a workbench, start piling weight on, and test how well the slides perform under load. Once I know the slide rail system is solid I will finalize the extruded aluminum base plank design and send those files off for the aluminum extrusion tooling. Extrusion tools are a lot less involved than the roto-mold tooling and faster to make so I would not be surprised if the Slide Out Utility Tray ships at about the same time the water tank does--mid to late April. Please know that that is a best estimate--it could be a little sooner but the more likely scenario is a little later. Faster is good but correct is better.

Great, thanks for the update! Looking forward to seeing the tray become a reality, it's going to really transform the utility of the gear tunnel. I'm excited about the kitchen as well and will buy one in the first production run, but the tray is going to get a lot more daily use so I'm glad it's getting close.

What I'd love to see the focus on is just the slides and plank. It seems you're busy with trying to design and build to much at this point to me. But ALL of us could use a nicely designed slide out tray and plank minus the bins on top. I like that idea also, but maybe that could be sold separately?
If you could just roll out the slides/plank right now I'd buy it immediately. Otherwise I'd probably build something myself. Love the fact that it would slide out either side, and I like the second revision. But ideally just get the plank ready to go, we can put all kinds of stuff on it without bins for now. Not sure I'd ever really need or want bins myself. Just my thoughts. Thanks for your work.

The 12 gallon tank got there first and is ready to start production. I'm now working on testing the slide tray mechanism as it is next in line for production.

Just watching the Rivian DIY space, and this came up for someone's kitchen... Do you think it would be possible to incorporate some sort of mobile plugs into SK[=0==0=]TR like he did with his?
You can see the umbilical style wiring thing he used at about 4:30 on this video:
And his plugs (look just like amazon adapters I've seen) at about 2:30 here:
