Just joined. Sent an email (totally misread one of the updates as I was trying to catch up and mistakenly thought you were from Michigan - please disregard lol) and a PM to get on the list. Not sure exactly where the final design is at or if there are still a couple options in the works. 18 pages of posts is a bit daunting to consume all at one go haha! Regardless, I’m super stoked about actually having something to make the gear tunnel more functional for daily use!! Personally it’s the full length option that can extend from both sides and the split option that can be accessed from either side. I guess basically for me being able to access and extend from both sides is my biggest feature desire, followed by modularity of storage totes/trays/whatever, power options (to be able to plug things in if needed while on/in a tray, and then powered extension (not a “need” but would be pretty rad). Excited to be able to order whenever this is finalized and orders open up! Hopefully this summer?

I’m interested in the slide out but not the kitchen. Is that still in process? Sorry but I just came across this site and couldn’t read all 18 pages of posts yet. Hi Sean and welcome to the group =) Yes the slide out utility tray is still in progress, and no it doesn't require the camp kitchen. You can get on the list by emailing Marsha HERE. Once you are on the list you will get project updates.

Welcome to the group =) I know reading back through all of the conversations is a lot so please feel free to ask any questions. Make sure you email Marsha HERE to get on the email update list. I was in the Detroit area last week for an engineering trade show--that must have been what you read. Weather was awesome. People were awesome. I set my phone down in Walmart and of course walked away and forgot it. My ID, credit cards, and room key. Total panic. I retraced my steps and couldn't find it. Went to customer service and there it was. Not sure how I would have been able to get on my flight home without ID. The Utility Tray is pretty much locked down as we are on our second, (and hopefully last) production validation article. The only variable at this point is potentially offering the end caps painted in Rivian's body colors as an option. There will be more on that in the next week or so. The group decided to go with a single tray sliding out both sides. Also, something like 95% wanted power outlets in the tray so that is going to be standard, not an optional item. Other than that you should be up to speed =)

Gene, Noticed you do not have a logo and threw one together. Could be debossed into the side plates? LMK if you'd like the .eps vector file. imgur.com/a/D3LLAbPI saw what you did there...nice =) Incomplete compass diamond = open box. RA (ra)= god.

No, your designs and this interactive process are awesome. We trust you to take the time to do things right and end up with a superior product. Not to mention that you do all that on the side with a day job. Thanks for all this effort Gene! It’s very appreciated.

I mentioned earlier that we are working on the second Production Validation Article for the Slide Out Utility tray.
I know a lot of you guys are interested in the design, development, and manufacturing processes for a project like this, so a "PVA" or Production Validation Article, is pretty much what it sounds like. Before we make all of the individual parts in production volumes, samples are made and assembly procedures, or BOA (Bill Of Assembly) are tested. Obviously it is better to find any issues now rather than after all the parts have been run.
If you look closely you will notice the screws are too long on the tray and shimmed with 5 or 6 washers as just one example of a process error. The assembly guys get back to me and tell me certain screws were specified with incorrect lengths. I then check if it was me or if there was a coms issue somewhere in the chain.
The first thing to notice is the tray is full extension in BOTH directions. It is not on tracks that limit it to about 2/3rds extension, or single direction drawer slides. Full extension BOTH directions. It also locks in both directions when stowed and when extended, and can be opened from either side without having to traverse the vehicle to unlock the other end.
Next, I hope what I have been saying all along about the difference between equipment grade and accessory grade comes through in the video. I know I have taken a long time getting here, but, a LOT of that time has been spent trying to make this one really stand out. Full extension both directions, 3mm thick aluminum tray with a steel base, integrated power outlets in the tray etc.
Lastly, just to make sure everyone understands, this is a test article, it is video directly from the shop floor so the video will be loud and is not professionally produced to be "slick" Most companies would never show footage like this because the powder coating isn't on yet, it isn't mounted to the work bench, and so on. Kind of like getting your picture taken in your underwear instead of your tuxedo.
***EDIT***
Keep in mind that this is just the tray--no end caps and internal dividers yet--so as rigid as the structure is already, it is going to stiffen up even more once those are in place. I will post more videos later if possible.

So incredibly awesome! SO many bits and pieces to figure out! Thanks for all of this effort. Anxiously awaiting and SO ready to put to use. And I’m so glad you went with a ‘tray’ design so that it is more useful out of the box than a flat slide.

In practice a tray just ends up with everything sliding or being pushed off and you're back to reaching into that awkward space trying to retrieve it.

Competition continues to multiply… EV Sportline released theirs with custom storage box’s today. Yeah I may end up being too late and have wasted all this time. Definitely not. EV Sportline's platform is pretty useless without their boxes, it's just a flat panel with a 50/50 split. They couldn't even get their slides to go out far enough so they've got 'dead space' in the center that they had to stick a little box in, only available through the back seat, and they're selling it as an addition. Their drawers are pretty cool, but if it's just the platform, you're just going to have stuff slide off the sides and get jammed in there. If you park next to something on one side, you're unable to utilize that part of the tunnel (especially with the center box, you can't even slide stuff through by reaching in...) Your designs so far are vastly superior! I'm super pumped for yours to come out!

One thing occurred to me just now is the EV Sportline has no native support for passthrough electricity. Honestly, it looks like a solid product for some subset of users, but might not overlap significantly with the audience for your sled and kitchen.

To me, theirs screams "build it so we can sell it" and they missed quite a few things that could make it better. The SK00TR really shines with all the thought Gene has put into it, plus the feedback he's been gathering. But, EV Sportline does advertisements and Gene only gets word-of-mouth distribution. I still think it's a far superior product, I just wish there was one installed in my truck already.
